The 12 Literacies is a commissioned body of work created for Stellar World School, an experiential IB school in Mumbai.

The project draws inspiration from the school’s philosophy of ‘Life Literacies’ — a holistic approach to education that extends beyond academics to encompass the many ways in which children learn to understand themselves, others and the world around them.

Each of the twelve handcrafted paper illustrations interprets one of these literacies:

Created entirely through hand-cut and layered paper, the artworks were designed to bring these ideas into the everyday environment of the school. Installed across spaces within the K–12 campus, they introduce visual narratives that encourage curiosity, imagination and creative thinking, while making the school environment itself part of the learning experience.

The project explores how art can become a quiet form of learning — opening up ideas, inviting interpretation and encouraging children to look at familiar concepts in new ways.
