The flow of nature.

The flow between us.

The flow of becoming.

The Flow is an exploration of movement — not simply as the passage of something from one place to another, but as a quiet, continuous force that shapes the world around us and our experience within it.

Ishita has always been an observer of connection: between nature and time, between people and memory, between what we inherit and what we become. She finds herself drawn to the rhythms that exist beneath the surface — the movement of water, the shifting of landscapes, the invisible threads between us, and the gradual ways in which experiences transform who we are.

There is something inherently meaningful about paper in this process. Its tactile and visual qualities allow me to explore ideas that are difficult to hold in words — connection, transition, memory, belonging and change.

The Flow is ultimately an invitation to pause and notice the movement that is always taking place: around us, between us, and within us. Even what appears still is constantly becoming something else.

About The Artist

Hello!

Ishita Chowdhary is a paper artist based in Mumbai, India, whose practice explores the expressive possibilities of paper through intricate hand-cut works. Working with layered paper alongside watercolors, waterproof inks, photo inks, thread, leaves, seeds, and found natural materials, she creates pieces that balance precision with organic form.

Rooted in observation, introspection, and slow experimentation, her work investigates the interconnectedness of nature and human experience through themes of identity, transformation, memory, belonging, and ecology. Her process is slow and intuitive and allowing the material to guide the work as it takes shape. Treating paper as both a material and a language, she creates tactile narratives that invite contemplation and dialogue.

The Making

Her practice begins with observation and gradually moves into translation. She takes her thoughts, sensations and experiences and gives them a physical language through paper.

She enjoys the quiet, meditative rhythm of working by hand. The process is slow and deliberate. Cutting, tearing, layering and placing each piece becomes a process of listening—sometimes following an instinct, sometimes allowing the material itself to guide the work.

What begins as an idea slowly takes shape through the dialogue between hand, material and intuition. And the fragments begin to find their place, building depth and rhythm one layer at a time. The work unfolds and evolves, through moments of discovery, patience and play. In this space between intention and intuition, the paper begins to tell its own story.
